Fool’s Gold, or just fools.

Prospecting at Hiddenite Gem Mine

Today we went to the Hiddenite Gem Mine, which is sort of like a peanut, as in peanuts are neither peas nor nuts and I saw neither gems nor a mine at this place.

It was really fun though, we did digging, sluicing, and creeking, and found a ton of quartz. It’s possible that my dad may have found a tiny ruby, but that’s questionable. It was cold, a little labor intensive (buckets of dirt can be sort of heavy), and slightly ridiculous, but we all had a good time. And now TSA gets to look through a bag of rocks in my checked luggage.

Oh, and there were some really ugly, but friendly, ducks.

Oh, he didn’t really claim anything, that was group consensus. He was doing some good amateur geology, though.
